Man, life really finds a way to slow you down from accomplishing your goals sometimes.
As you can see, I haven’t made much progress with drawing or writing, but I made some. And in the end, that’s all that really matters.
I tried a bunch of different “teach yourself to draw” methods, from Drawabox to YouTube videos to random books I found at the library. They’re all great, and I’m sure that they work for some people, but I am the type of person that works better in a classroom environment. I like to be able to ask a teacher questions, and to have that instant gratification / fear of someone reviewing my work. I’m hoping to sign up for an in-person class soon, and I’ll keep you updated when that happens.
I did take a coloring class through Comics Experience taught by the wonderful Chris Sotomayor, and if it taught me anything it’s that I am not built for coloring comics. The process is fascinating, and I really learned a lot from Chris, but I can tell you that it is not something I would ever pursue as a career. Sometimes you sign up for classes just to see if it’s something you dig, and if you don’t, that’s fine. Who knows, maybe I’ll get the bug to color some stuff a few years from now?
Hugs & Kisses,
